Square Enix has warned users of its online Square Enix
Members service of an unauthorized breach by an unknown party, and has
suspended the service while it assesses the situation.

The Square Enix Members service allows users to view game profiles and
information, and talk with other users about Square Enix releases, as
well as keep up to date with all the latest Square Enix news.

The company revealed that a server containing information from the North
American and Japanese Square Enix Members services has been breached,
and that the service will be down until further notice.

In a statement, the company issued an apology to all users, but was keen
to stress that no credit card information has been compromised, as the
server did not contain this information.

"We have reason to believe that unknown parties may have gained
unauthorized access to a particular Square Enix server related to the
free Square Enix Members service offered in North America and Japan,"
the statement reads.

"We are assessing the full extent of this potential breach to determine
what data, if any, was compromised and will provide more details as soon
as possible."

It continues, "While some personal information may have been accessed,
we can confirm that there is no possibility of any credit card
information leak from this incident, since the server in question stores
no credit card information."

The breach echoes a recent breach in Nexon's MapleStory online game, in which over 13 million user accounts were affected.
