Been waiting for this game for over a year now. Still in early Alpha phase. Game should be in the beta stage by next year or so. ^.^ Great game. P2P but worth the money by far. Aion has stole some of their ideas, and now Kaos War isn't letting the public know much about their renovated technology..great stuff. Here is a bit of information to get you all hooked in:
Gameplay of Kaos War
Kaos War is played from a 3rd and 1st person perspective with fps and action style controls. Unlike most MMO games Kaos War delivers real time action, allowing the player to direct his weapons or powers in combat.
The game offers a blend of melee weapons, ranged weapons and mystic powers and aims to balance out this blend by for example allowing melee weapons to be used to deflect certain attacks. (Although far from indefinitely)
A leveled player character within Kaos War is based on a balance between opposing abilities, such as: Strength vs. Dexterity and Constitution vs. Agility. These abilities can be improved by simply using them, Strength for example being increased by wielding a sword and Dexterity by using a handgun.
By using this approach to character progression Kaos War does away with classes and instead allows you to define your own class by leveling your character, achieving a certain balance of abilities and skills. An advanced morphing system causes the physique of your character to reflect his or her abilities.
The world of Kaos is above all things a living world, this includes frequent live events based on the state of the world, an ever changing economy based on the laws of supply and demand, a wide range of interiors and player housing, advanced guild functionalities, accommodations and other perks and meaningful Race vs. Race gameplay.
The Story of Kaos
Throughout the planes of existence, the origin of all life stems from one source. It is a river of energy, flowing in all directions, bathing worlds in its touch. It is neither light nor dark, evil nor good. Its presence can be felt within the smallest of insects or the largest of mammals. It is both hope of renewal and promise of an end. It is the Soulstream.
From the very first death, all life has sought a return to the source. With each one that has passed, having rejoined the stream, came with them a perception of reality. The shadow memories of countless lives amassed over time and coalesced into a physical form, a planet called Kaos.
Echoes of the newly born world reverberate through the stream, coloring its flow with glimpses into other places and times. The word chaos itself stems from that mercurial panorama, where its shadowed layers in time all vie for dominance of the plane. Those glimpses have afforded man with some insight, however small, into the lives of other beings. What mankind has come to know as angels are in truth a race called Devas. Similarly, man’s demons are yet another race called the Al’gar.
Now those that die find their way through the stream, but their story does not end there. They are reborn onto Kaos, a new life with old hope, perceptions intact and reality in question. For now their mythical angels and demons walk the land, and the skies are afire with the streamers of battle. Besieged on both sides, caught between the light and the dark, their only hope is each other, their only future is war.
The Kaos War.
The Beginning
It is uncertain whether the Meha or the Carcites created the known planes, but it is sure they played a hand in their shaping. Mark of their influence can be seen on every land, from the delicate molding of a vista into natural art to the scarred and tortured coil of a barren terrain. Though none still live to tell the truth of how things were, subtle glimpses of the past still remain within the stream.
The Meha sought to bring life where there was none, to balance the vast emptiness within the astral. They created the Devas to assist in their endeavor, fragments of their spirit, a race born of their likeness. Imbued with great power and the knowledge to wield it, these winged children traversed the ether as the extensions of a greater will.
The Carcites were destructive by nature, feeding on the souls of undeveloped life and scouring the planes for more power. Driven by the desire to grow beyond the bounds of their domain, they gave rise to a rugged offspring with a hateful cunning and ingenuity. With a hunger for power that rivaled their masters, the Al’gar laid waste to thousands of worlds, searching without rest for any sign of life.
A clashing of the two was inevitable, and horrendous devastation ensued. Like a war among gods, the resulting tumult tore whole worlds asunder and left naught but remnants of lesser life in its wake. The very fabric of the astral was nearly destroyed. Even the Carcites realized the futility of winning dominance over ruin, and an unspoken agreement was made. The two parted ways with the intent of avoiding the other at all costs.
For the time that followed, there was a relative peace, where the astral was given time to grow anew. Conflict, however, could not be avoided forever, as the whole of existence was consumed by one or the other, when all that remained unclaimed was the Soulstream itself and the planet that formed at its origin. Once the Carcites set hungry eyes toward the source of all life, the Meha had no choice but to intervene.
No threat of annihilation could dissuade the Carcites from their course, neither by the hands of the Meha nor the backlash of the stream. Devouring fires engulfed the ether in a growing cataclysm called the End Storm, an ocean of black flame that began to bleed into other realms and sweep across thriving worlds in a wave of unforgiving annihilation. Still, the Carcites would not relent in their attempts to subdue and harness the stream.
The Meha realized that so long as their dark brothers were allowed to exist, all life across all planes was in danger. Unfortunately, they saw but one recourse left to them. In a rite that tore the world of Kaos apart, in what we now call the Prime Sundering, they sought to put an end to the destruction. Giving up their physical bodies to become pure energy, the Meha fuelled the ritual with their own life essence, pushing back the volatile storm and mending the stream. Kaos, however, could not be restored. Each Carcite was then forced to make a choice: retreat to the realm of their making or face annihilation with the Meha. They chose the former and were imprisoned by the rite.
The incredible sacrifice was remembered daily among the Devas, as they strove to continue the work of their creators, spreading light across the planes and mending ruin from the past. The Al’gar remembered as well and struggled each day to free their seven lords. With undiminished fervor, they carried on their pursuit of power, hoping to find the means of undoing the Meha rite. They believed their only hope was to once more harness the Soulstream, but such a feat was beyond them, beyond the limit of lesser gods…
Unless the power could be found in the remnants of Kaos.
The World of Kaos
Roughly 90% of the Kaos War world is set on a planet called Kaos, the surface of which is contested by 3 factions. Each faction has one major city, together these cities and their large surrounding areas, including several faction bases, make up about 1/3rd of the gameworld.
To give you an idea of the races and their cities, here is a short description of each race and their major city:
Race: AlGar
A race of darkness and as such capable of wielding dark mystical powers. The AlGar define reality by the right of the strongest, not recognizing morals or values as the core principles of life. It is their firm belief that the one value which defines all life is personal power, making the AlGar an empire of savage warriors. Although their beliefs cause their society to be a chaotic one, as the members of the AlGar society continually challenge each other to establish their own superiority, they have always feared and recognized a superior leader. It is this emperor that all AlGar bow down to as he leads the AlGar into battle against their enemies. The armies of the AlGar are called legions, each lead by a fierce and respected leader, a leader who bows only to the emperor.
City: BragunDragul
Home of the AlGar and seat of the emperor. Since establishing this city on Kaos the dark energy of the AlGar has transformed the landscape and wildlife around it. The AlGar hunt in the area around their city in order to gather large amounts of meat for their raw and primitive meals. Situated mostly underground surrounded by treacherous cliffs and lava flows this city perfectly portraits the powerful and dangerous life of the AlGar. Deep inside this bastion the AlGar emperor commands his armies in the battles unfolding all over Kaos, opening dark portals and deploying his legions wherever he sees fit.
Race: Humanity
The human race is made up of chaos and as such it has never possessed the innate mystical abilities that define the existence of the AlGar and Deva. Instead humanity has evolved and developed advanced technologies to help them control the world they live in. As the human race was never able to travel using mystic portals, they have remained on Kaos ever since mankind came into being. The one thing that defines humanity as a race is that despite their various laws and beliefs they care greatly for all other humans. It is this caring that united mankind on Kaos after centuries of war, long before the arrival of the AlGar and the Deva. Humanity is lead by a Signifier, a ruler elected for life. The armies of humanity are called orders, each lead by a respected leader that has pledged loyalty to the Signifier.
City: Sanctuary
The last human city, its countless citizens made up from survivors of all ethnicity's. Positioned in the flow of a steep canyon riverbed, Sanctuary has been able to sustain itself for centuries thanks to the power supplied by its giant hydroelectric dam. This dam keeps the city dry, sending the water trough underground pipes to the other sides of the city. Using the ample supply of electricity and clean water, the city of Sanctuary sustains itself with food harvested from its perfectly regulated hydroponic farms, deep below the city. Sanctuary is the seat of the Signifier, the elected ruler of mankind and the Orders, the armies of humanity that fight in his name. Although humanity lacks the ability to open portals in order to deploy their troops into battle, the fast transport shuttles, used for both regular transportation and military drops, more then make up for this.
Race: Deva
The Deva define their lives not by personal power or by caring for their kind, but instead, by a what they believe to be the absolute truth, a strict set of laws that determine what is right or wrong and how one should act in any situation. Because they are beings of light they are capable of wielding light mystical powers. With their strict laws and beliefs the Deva are the ultimate orderly society. The Deva are ruled by a supreme council, each member of which is recognized as a personification of the beliefs and the laws they live by. This council commands the armies of the Deva, known as houses in battle.
City: Uzurahim
The city of light, home of the Deva and their ruling council. Located in a beautiful mountain area, the light energy of the Deva has turned the surrounding landscape into what can best be described as a garden of eden. With a wide variety of fruits ready to be picked from this garden, food is not a concern for the Deva, especially since eating meat is against their beliefs. The halls of eternity and the seat of the council form the heart of the Uzurahim, from which the council of the Deva oversees its empire and commands its armies, using mystical portals to deploy its houses into battle.
