Mortal Kombat Illegal in Australia – $100,000 Fine on Imports Mortal-kombat9-fatality
Torso ripping, body slashing, falling to one’s death in a pit of
spikes and the like are too much for Australia. Their government has
refused to classify the new Mortal Kombat (“RC”), meaning they won’t
rate it, and therefore it can’t be sold. Here is the official word from
an Australian Customs and Border Protection Service spokesperson:
As Mortal Kombat has been refused classification in
Australia, it is considered objectionable material. It is therefore a
prohibited good and illegal to import into Australia…
For those sneaky Australians who think they can just import, you better watch out, big Aussie is watching:
Any copies of the games detected at the border, including via international mail, will be seized.
As if that weren’t enough, those who get caught trying to import “RC”
games can be fined three times the value of the imported game, or
$100,000, whichever is greater (lol).
