shu:saw this from mmo site and post here for u guys to read.basically i think its funny how the author say trion was doing great customer support by removing one guild name and giving it away to another guild.pretty sure nothing will be done if the guild that requested name to be given to them was a small guild.the gm pretty much did this so the commotion in their forum will stop and due to the other guild being a big guild with large numbers of players.in almost most cases guild name will be first come first serve,it does not matter if the first person is registering the name out of grieving or not.this kinna make me feel trion gm have some ties with the bigger guild so is helping them instead of giving the normal answer of first come first serve, corrupted or mishandled i am not sure but it sure its funny the way they handle it lol ^^

Recently RIFT, the MMORPG by Trion Worlds, was released on March 1st.
Overall, the launch was incredibly successful. However, the launch day
was not without drama. No, there weren't any game breaking bugs or
server issues (in fact, I've only ever encountered one issue in the game
and a GM fixed the situation within 5 minutes.) On the night of
February 28th, a player on the Trion forums by the name of "nacus" posted the following message:
The situation that he is talking about happened on the
Lotham server. He had created a guild called the Goon Squad, and then
later, the owners of Goon Squad (which is a guild that spans multiple
games and participated in the RIFT beta) requested to have their name
back from a GM. If you looked at the hyperlink included, you'll see that
many people went in support of this person. Comments included raging at
Trion, saying that "nacus" should get his guild name back, and a few
threats to Trion and the guild that took the name back as well.
Originally, I was also on "nacus" side, and I requested
that he send me additional information about this case so that we could
post something up for all of you to read. I first received the following
email which included their ticket information (Please note that they
are in reverse order, with the latest email first):

The tickets did indeed seem to say that GM Giant was
abusing his powers and not listening to their case. However, a few
minutes later, I received the following email from "nacus":

Here is the situation. Our guild shares a name with another much
larger guild, it has been like this for many years, and who is to say
who started out first?
Before launch day the much larger guild that shares our name chose to
go to one of the "top" PVP servers. We saw this and choose to go to
Lotham. Head start comes around and we hustle and get the name within
the first hour of the server starting.
The next day, the other guild decided that que times were to long on
the server they chose so they moved over to our server. (I am sure they
had no idea who we are or where were). They protested to a GM that we
stole the name, and guess what? The GM disbanded out guild and gave it
to them!! Even though we can show that we have used it in other games,
and can show they posted that they were not even going to be on our
server. Pretty lame if you ask me.
I guess it shows that GM's in this game will favor the larger guilds.
The situation that he is talking about happened on the
Lotham server. He had created a guild called the Goon Squad, and then

Hello Clericbert!
Thank you for contacting us regarding Rift.
Once a guild has been made the only way to change the name of they
are using is them to leave the guild and create a new one. I do
apologize about the inconvenience, but unless you can provide any proof
of them causing any violations, we are not entitled to change their name
or transfer to others.
If you have any additional questions or concerns then please don't
hesitate to let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Trion

The tickets did indeed seem to say that GM Giant was
abusing his powers and not listening to their case. However, a few
minutes later, I received the following email from "nacus":
Michael,
First me let say we are still trying to work with Trion to get this
resolved, we are not getting anywhere yet. But here is the story.
Yes the name is Goon Squad. To be honest we had never really heard of
them in all our MMO days. It is a stupid name, I agree, but its our
stupid name. We started to use it all the way back in UO and have used
it on and off ever since. We do not are always very small, we are a RL
group of friends, and do bring in other RL friends.
One poster in the monster thread brought up even more evidence for
our case. Quite sometime ago I did post "Where is Goon Squad going on
launch" this was done on our part to make sure we would not be on the
same server as them. And then like I said in the OP we found out they
were going to Blaircliff and we choose to go to Lotham.
I find it funny in the OP that my original post, that some people are
using this as to say that we were intentionally trying to steal the
name. The way I see it is, one we are ultra intelligent psychic game
nerds that foresaw Goon Squad would have such a bad time on the server
they publicly stated they were going to, that in time they would
eventually choose to come to our server. At which point we would have
stolen the name, and well, I am not sure what we would do.
Or it shows that we have attempted to avoid the other Goon Squad and
go on our way. I like the first idea of making it sound like we are evil
geniuses, but well, yeah we are just not quite at that IQ level.
So there you have the story, and the outcome is still in the air.
Talk to you soon,
Ken
While the email made me a bit more sympathetic to their
case, I found it interesting that he stated that he asked the Goon Squad
where they were going upon launch. I checked his past posts on the
forum, and, lo and behold, there was no such thing. The closest thread I
could come up was this one where a member states:
There were certainly a good number of them on Lotham during the last beta. no idea about OB or release.
Yikes. When I read that, I became suspicious of the
whole story. It became clear that "nacus" probably knew which server
that the Goon Squad was going on. To double check this fact, I made a
phone call to Katie Uhlman, the Director of Corporate Communications
& Community at Trion Worlds. She was incredibly helpful in solving
this case, even though it was a busy launch day. She confirmed what I
had discovered. "nasus" went to the Lotham server, created the guild
Goon Squad, and then was holding the name with a few low leveled
characters to grief the real Goon Squad on their main server. "nasus"
was refunded his 1 platinum, even though he was griefing this guild.
However, this not being enough for him, he went to their forums to whine
about it and to try and breed hate against Trion Worlds on their
release day. You think that the forum whining would have been enough for
him, however, he also decided to make multiple phone calls to support
and other employees at Trion that were borderline harassment. Trion
Worlds released the following official statement about the case:
This situation was thoroughly investigated by the head of our CS
department. After reviewing all information coming from various
individuals, guilds and forum posts on a number of sites, a
determination was made in regards to who should rightfully have the
guild name. We have again reviewed the circumstances and details, and we
stand by our decision.
Trion Worlds is known for their excellent customer
support, so I can see why someone would try to hurt this image – as it
would directly impact the sales of RIFT on its launch day. However, due
to the combined efforts, the situation has been contained and the
griefers have been found out. Trion Worlds and MMOSite: 1 Griefers: 0
