Uncharted
Waters Online is a MMROPG developed by TECMO KOEI
set within several timelines during the Age of Exploration
as a romantic and historic fictional
account of the era. Players will live and play real world of 15th
century to make their own histories. Players may choose from 6
nationalities; England, Dutch Republic, Ancient Régime in France,
Spanish Empire, Kingdom of Portugal, and Republic of Venice. Players may
also choose from several occupations after choosing a basic class of
adventurer, merchant or soldier. Players are able to trade, explore,
battle and join in live events such as "Great Sea Fights."




After years of anticipation, Uncharted Waters Online is coming to the
West in the summer of 2010. The publisher CJ Internet and developer
TECMO KOEI will be proudly announcing this at the Electronic
Entertainment Expo (E3) held in Los Angeles next week.


Uncharted Waters Online, has been serving in limited regions for over
three years now. Millions of Uncharted Waters Online users in Japan and
Korea have been exploring the world and making their own unique
histories. With years of experience in global service, CJ Internet is
well-prepared to bring this game to the world, starting with North
America and European regions.








Set between the 15th and 17th centuries, every player will have the
chance to conquer the hundreds of neutral cities to ensure that their
chosen nation becomes the world's leading power to influence all others.
Players will be able to buy or build their ships giving them the
opportunity to completely customise their look and feel.


Uncharted Waters Online houses a very sophisticated economy system
very similar to real-life trading of goods. Investments and
relationships all have an effect on the economy that surrounds the
player. Tax and customs will also be applied within the game making it
essential for players to conquer cities in order to reduce their taxes.

If I recall, Uncharted Waters used to be an old KOEI game I played
in the 1990s.

The in-game graphics look old. The music is good; i can tell there's effort put into that. I've tried playing a game with an active virtual trading economy before; it kinda kills the fun when it made very realistic. I have no doubt that KOEI will make this very realistic...so no thanks.

at least they bring it to english version finally.but i play this in console as well long time ago and i enjoy it.not too sure how fun online version will be like.i do agreed with evo if they make it too realistic some fun will be taken out.best mix it with 2.5d style and it could be very nice heh

CJ internet announced their brand new project Uncharted Waters
Online which was developed by Japan-based game company TECMO
KOEI Games at this year's E3. Based on KOEI's Rokoeition
Uncharted Waters series of games, Uncharted Waters Online is set within
several timelines during the Age of Exploration as a romantic and
historic fictional account of the era. It has been published in Japan
with the name Great Voyage Online.

We sat down with Takeda Tomokaz, producer director
of Uncharted Waters Online, giving an overview of this unique
voyage-based MMORPG.
MMOsite: Hello！ So glad that you can take the
interview with MMOsite! I'm Jeff. First, would you briefly introduce
yourself to our readers?
Takeda Tomokaz : Hello, I'm Takeda
Tomokaz from TECMO KOEI GAMES.? I'm a producer director of our upcoming
title, Uncharted Waters Online.


MMOsite: Your games feature many different genres,
but have one thing in common. That is, each of your games bears a
profound historical background. Even the love game Haruka brings a
classic, historical feel, which can be said as a kind of brilliant and
distinctive feature. So, is the MMO which has been unveiled in E3 also a
historical game?
Takeda Tomokaz : Yes, you exactly
pointed out its unique feature. ?UWO is based on the mid-century where
voyagers are exploring the world to make the histories.


MMOsite: Different from other Japanese game
companies concentrating on the development of console games, KOEI are
more enthusiastic in online games, and presented online projects early,
e.g. Nobunaga's Ambition Online in 2003, Great Voyage Online in 2005,
Dynasty Warriors BB in 2006 and Sangokushi Online in 2007. What makes
KOEI target at the online game market?
Takeda Tomokaz : As you mentioned,
'Great Voyage Online's official global service launching title is
'Uncharted Waters Online.' KOEI adopted Online Game model earlier than
other game companies. From beginning, we targeted Asia Market, where
secured gaming market is already formed, and we are actively servicing
various games to many different regions. Especially, Uncharted Waters
Online made a great success in Asia.
MMOsite: For the European and North American
players, the online games developed by Asian developers all have to face
a big problem – cultural difference, which lets such players fail to
understand the in-game oriental cultures. Do you take the problem into
consideration? Will the online game, which is still a mystery, get into
such "trouble" too? Please tell us something about the game's
background!
Takeda Tomokaz : We are definitely
working on localization to fit the market, North America and Europe, but
there will still be some cultural differences taken placed. However,
Uncharted Waters Online is originated from actual history, so there will
be less cultural gaps comparing to other typical online games. Also,
through beta-testing, we will apply North American/European users'
requests more intensively to target the niche in the gaming market.?

MMOsite: As mentioned above, KOEI's games feature
many different genres, some of which focus on stimulating actions, while
some are simulation games challenging players' brains and some are
otakus' favorite love games. Personally, I love the series of Great
Voyage Online and Dynasty Warriors BB. Does it focus on the PKs among
players or on strategies, or on both?
Takeda Tomokaz : We appreciate that
you consider Great Voyage Online as one of your favourite. Players, of
course, will be focusing on both PKs and on strategies, but UWO contains
more various factors to entertain players in the game.





MMOsite: We can see that in the current market, the
games' themes are very restricted. Shooting and monster-grinding games
are here and there, and many also integrate sci-fi and fantasy elements,
which are widely different from the historical games that KOEI is good
at. What's your opinion about such situation? Will your new online game
inject new life into the market of serious homogenization?
Takeda Tomokaz : You exactly
pointed out the difficulty we've faced. ?If online games became
restricted to limited genres and themes, the future of online game
market is not so bright. Diversity is a very crucial factor of
entertainment, so KOEI devoted its technology to make this historical
game, and hope UWO will inject a unique entertainment genre to the
gaming market.


MMOsite: What players care most in an online game is
their role in the gaming world. Can you tell us what the players will
act as in your upcoming game, a common soldier, a respectable general,
or a savior fighting against the darkness?
Takeda Tomokaz : Mainly, a player
will act as a voyager of mid-century, but depending on the main goal of
the characters, they can be classified as soldier, pirates, explorer,
and merchants. However, no matter which character they choose to play,
players will experience all.


MMOsite: Anything else about the game you want to
share with our readers? Takeda Tomokaz : Since UWO
is originated in historical backgrounds, we think it will be easily
accessible to North American and European users. Also, not like typical
shooting or fighting, players will experience this unique genre of
exploring world. We have been preparing a great time to bring this game
to the global market and are excited to present this great entertainment
to players.
