Kim Choe Jin from NCsoft |
Recently, Kim Choe Jin from NCsoft
expressed in a committee meeting that the issue of game addiction
prevention couldn't be ignored and effective special measures were
currently under discussion. On the same day, the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea also brought forth a scheme
to increase budgets on anti-game addiction. It seems that NCsoft and the
said Ministry share the same opinion on this aspect, but their specific
measures are a bit different.
One of the measures to be taken by the Ministry to prevent the online
game addiction is "extend the Fatigue System", while
the proposed prevention measures of NCsoft are more than that. According
to the report, NCsoft's new anti-addiction system will be composed of a
Relax system targeting at adult gamers and a
Cool Time system targeting at teenagers.
Aside from measures for protecting teenagers, NCsoft is also
preparing an anti-addiction system for adults, which is the core of its
prevention measures this time. The upcoming measures will not only
impose time limitations in games but also take excessive game playing
behavior based on realistic time into the prevention range.

The new anti-addiction system will be applied in all games operated
by NCsoft because the previous Fatigue System didn't achieve expected
prevention effects. The action of NCsoft this time has aroused great
attention in Korean gaming industry. Since the leading titles like Lineage,
Lineage
II and Aion
under the operations of NCsoft all adopt the business model of monthly
subscription combined with limited-time subscription, the implementation
of the new system needs to be carefully considered.
