Often we are concerned with what is laid out in front of us. So its easier to decide on factors such as graphics/art rendering, music, control interface, story depth, and multi-play scalability. Issues like publisher/developer history, adopted business models, server type, security, etc are all often harder to determine due to either lack of published info or hindsight bias.

The reason for being so thorough is simple. Even if mmo gaming is a passion for some of us, there has to be some justification to burning off precious hours of our lives on an online game. If half of these mentioned factors fail in that aspect for any mmo, it's better to drop it.
