SWTOR May Not Have Open Beta, Closed Beta Close To Final Release

Star Wars: The Old Republic
has a big show at E3: gameplay demos, new cinematic trailers, and
revelation of the first raid, etc.. But Star Wars fans are also eager to
hear some info about the beta, unfortunately, they may be disappointed
again, as Daniel Erickson, lead writer of SWTOR reveals that there will
be probably no Open Beta for the game.


It may be a disaster for those 1.5 million people who have registered
for SWTOR beta. OK, if there's no Open Beta, what about Closed Beta? On
talking about CBT, Daniel Erickson says that if there's a closed beta
it'll be released close to release date, thus, you may know both CB date
and final release date at the same time. As for the release date, it's
still slated for 2011. In that case, the rumor of the release date has
been pushed to 2012 is obviously not true. All the information about
beta testing is included in the interview below. Besides, there are
other questions regarding on the gameplay and some footage in the video.

Daniel Erickson doesn't clearly tell why there will be no OBT
although he mentions the game's large fan base and everyone wants to
come and play. It seems that BioWare is confident of the game's quality
for they have been running small scale test quite a while and keep
inviting new gamers into the testing. Another reason, as swtorstrategies points out, may be that "BioWare wants to preserve their storyline as much as possible."

in whatever case most of us do need feedback if we buying this or giving this a miss.and while open beta might be out.they are not totally ruling it out.and they did confirm cb will be close to release date when they are ready.

with aytheal getting into the alpha beta right now and maybe more of us will get in the cb later on we might still get the feedback and review we needed.

i am not very happy with the possibility of no OB but hopefully it will get change again later on.we shall see =p

if not.there is always the other mmo whom we can look forward to,cos i am not paying for a mmo again unless they give me or someone i trust time to test before paying heh

Disappointing indeed. I blame EA for this. Not Bioware.
Maybe they are afraid (they should be) of losing gamer population to Blizzard's Diablo III.

if things go right and reviews is good they might release game earlier.if feedback during this is not as good they will keep going and add new stuff and remove the bad ones.

i don't mind CB but i still prefer they consider OB later as well.OB is always good for stress test and also help prevent game from bad start later seeing it help allow ppl to download client earlier and less likely actual server will be brought down due to massive amount of ppl logging on with the experience gain from open beta heh

Oh yess! Let us all follow the fail of FFXIV and release much earlier then supposed.
