It is learnt that starting from next January, item and
gold trading will be prohibited in all-age, 12+ and 15+ games, and
adults will be allowed to trade items and gold in adult games only.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of
South Korea announced the draft of the above legislation on Nov. 14 and
started soliciting insiders' suggestions. The solicitation will continue
till Dec. 5, and the act will be put into effect next January.
As expressed by the South Korean government, the act is
intended to protect teenagers as it's analyzed that cash-based item/gold
trading can result in game addiction too. Based on the government's
decision, the act will be implemented along with the upcoming bill that
forbids the teenagers aged below 16 from entering online games between
12:00pm and 6:00am.
It is learnt that among the top 10 online games in South Korea, only
Sudden Attack and
TERA are adults-only games, and the rest are all-age, 12+ or 15+ ones. It's
very likely that the new act will deal a rather heavy blow to item/gold
trading sites once implemented.
