Companions

What would Han Solo be without Chewbacca? C3PO without R2D2? Exactly,
they would be simply incomplete. Everyone will be escorted by one of
several companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic. These
companions are NPCs but far more than the usual pets which accompany you
in other MMOGs. The characters have different strengths and weaknesses,
an individual level and personality which influence the story line. The
companion characters have an effect on us, but we also have a share in
their development. A fathomless evil Sith’s friend will develop
differently from the companion of a Sith, who’s making friendlier
decisions once in a while. We can also customize our companions’
equipment to make them even more unique.

The companion characters are highly geared to the ones present in
BioWare’s single-player games. Talking to them is only one of the minor
available options: Players can even befriend or romance them just as
they might decide to betray or dismiss their companions. The relation
will be emotional in either case - positively or negatively.

Companions News_comp2In
contrast to the single-player games only one companion follows us at a
time. Even when playing in groups they won’t vanish but will accompany
us without exception. It’s up to us how much we want to control them:
Nobody is forced to control something he doesn’t want to control. People
who would like to instruct their companions will be given the option to
do so.

The finished game shall offer a broad variety of possible companion
characters for the player to choose from. Right now the following have
been approved:

Confirmed Companions
Companions Begl_tanno Tanno Vik
The Weequay Tanno Vik is one of the most talented
demolitions experts to ever serve in the Republic military. He is
described as undisciplined, but unstoppable. Tanno can be a companion
for Republic Troopers.
Availble for: Trooper
Companions Kaliyo_small Kaliyo Djannis
Despite, or maybe because of her fairly small height of 1.5
meters, this Rattataki is an infamous criminal and habitual liar. Only
when firepower fails Kaliyo does she fall back on her charm.
Available for: Imperial Agent
Companions Bowdaar_small Bowdaar
This powerful Wookiee fights for the Smuggler at the front
line. Although he often carries no armor or guns, he won all of his
gladiator fights he ever begun.
Available for: Smuggler
Companions Begl_qyzen Qyzen Fess
Qyzen Fess is a bloodthirsty Trandoshan
hunter that can partner with the Jedi Consular. Despite widespread
prejudices against his species, he has become a trusted companion of the
Jedi Consular and travels on the Consular’s ship across the galaxy.
Available for: Jedi Consular
Companions T701 T7-01
The T7-01 Astromech-Droid is the first confirmed companion
for the Jedi Knight. He was already featured alongside the Jedi in the "Deceived"
Trailer. "Although he was originally designed for repair and piloting
duties, T7 has accumulated many special modifications, expanding his
potential uses on and off the battlefield."
Available for: Jedi Knight
Companions Begl_mayko Mako
Mako supports Braden during the "Great Hunt" on Hutta with
intel and tech. Bounty Hunters meet her in one of their first quests on
their origin planet and can at one point take her as a companion. (Source: James Ohlen, ComicCon 2010)
Available for: Bounty Hunter
Companions Begl_vette Vette
The Twi'lek Vette is a pirate who uses her criminal
abilities to enrich herself. She has an unquenchable spark, is
delighting and shrewd. In combat she can support the Sith Warrior.
Available for: Sith Warrior
Companions Begl_dashade Kim Vaal
The Dashade are large reptiles with dark skin and powerful
claws. Kim Vaal is a melee focused fighter with the unique racial
ability to “soak up” force power from enemy force users. This allows the
player to take a less active melee role, for those who choose to stand
away from combat.
Available for: Sith Inquisitor
Companions Begl_kaleesh Xalek
This Kaleesh Force-user is a pure damage dealer. This
allows the Inquisitor to concentrate on healing from the second row and
still deal sufficient damage or to add to his strength as a fighter and
be even more destructive.
Available for: Sith Inquisitor
Possible Companions
Companions Begl_droide2 T3-Droid
The Jedi Knight could be seen with this droid in the "Deceived" trailer.
It is not clear, whether we will see it in this form in-game and what
exact function it could have. That droids will be possible companions
for Jedi, however, was confirmed by James Ohlen in an interview with the
German PCGames.(Source: PCG 13/09)
Possbile companion for: Jedi Knight
Companions Twilekschurkin Eleena Daru
This Twi'lek was shown as the companion of the Sith Warrior Darth Malgus in the "Deceived" trailer. In an interview at Nowgamer
it is mentioned that a Twi'lek helps the Sith Warrior on his last
mission on his starting planet and has roguish, smuggler abilities
(probably Vette is meant though).
Possbile companion for: Sith Warrior
Companions Begl_assassin_droid HK-series assassin droid
On one of the first available pictures for SWTOR a Sith,
probably a Sith Inquisitor, was shown next to a assassin droid of the
HK-series. The droid looks very similar to the popular companion HK-47,
which probably makes many KOTOR fans happy, and lets it seem plausible
that the pictured droid will be a companion character in TOR, as well.
Possbile companion for: Sith Inquisitor
Companions Begl_droide_sith Utility droid
In the second video documentary a picture of a Sith,
probably a Sith Warrior, was shown that stands next to a utility droid.
The picture suggest that this droid could be a companion for the Sith
Warrior.
Possbile companion for: Sith Warrior
