Here's the story.
tcos was made as a p2p game the company that made it was good enough to make an awesome game, BUT they were new, they choose the wrong country to begin with (Netherlands, one of the crappiest countries to try and make such a project as an MMO)
so they did manage to make an awesome real time combat mmorpg, BUT they failed in the set up, the marketing, and all the other strategies
this still left an awesome game though, that after a few wrong turns, ended up in a f2p model
currently the game is being reformed for this model, but the servers are up and running, thus having an f2p game that was made to be a p2p game with no cash shop at all
now since it is run by acclaim it is in a lousy state, even their downloader is bugged (I am testing alternative download atm), nevertheless it is a great game, and all it takes is a few of us willing to play it to make it a personal sucess for us that we can enjoy in the meanwhile
The combat system is very good, the graphics are way better then your average f2p crap, the game has no cash shop, the classes and combat system is a lot different then your average crap.
If ya ll be experiencing trouble patching, (it takes a while from 1032 to 1042 one) I ll try to give you that part of the patch or upload it later. (link to acclaims manual patch downloads, but their servers are freeking slow, so it's better to let the game just patch up since then you ll have less hassle)
Now for windows 7 users there is a gameguard error, after patching the game you ll have to replace your gameguard.des file with the new version of it found here. (only 370kb or so)
the gameguard.des file can be found inside your spellborn folder after going to bin/client/gameguard

There is no cash shop at all, and no one knows how long it's gonna take them to actually release it.
On top of that Frogster (from RoM) is taking over the re-release of this game, v.2.0 And untill it is re-released it's gonna stay without cash shop.
This could as well mean months of fun for us if we get this game to work

This game looks cool. I allways wanted to check it out but I didnt want to download a 3gb+ installation file. Since aika is going to die, I guess im going to try TCoS. I'll post a review in 2 or 3 days.

cool looking forward to hearing what you have to say Snow. I looked at this game a while ago in CB but never got round to playing due to all the issues it had.
Heres the game song done by Within Temptation -the Howling that got me interested in the game :P

will wait for reviews.
last review i read on this mmo says the game is fun at the start.then once u hit higher lvl there is a serious lack of content updates and end game content.so players have nothing to do and just quit.

This is what the updater says
Well, now we've done it. Spellborn is free to play, your account won't expire. There is no level cap. Just play and have fun!
@Shu Who cares about end game, it's an mmo for in between obviously, but it is a good mmo, and worth experiencing for the fun of it + it is totally different then your average combat system

Ok so I got it to work, made my character. And killed my 1st thing
I have to say the combat system is awesome, the skill deck system is gonna be a very interesting way of fighting and ll probably make your brains crack at some point.
Back to playing ^_^

The combat system is compareable to Tera online, you can avoid mob attacks real time by circling arround them making them not able to attack you when your hitting them from the back (depending on how fast the mob is) you have to aim your bow real time etc.
Only here you use a rotating wheel with 6 by 6 skill slots, instead of a skill bar, adding extra tactical gameplay and depending on how well your able to think stuff through how well you perform in combat.

I'm loving it!!! How often in a game do you get to fight 1 vs 6 at lvl 3 and win ^_^? The pve in this game turning out to be hella fun already! Not sure how the pvp ll be, and I rolled on a PvE server since I heard there is more people there, I think there is a duel system though.

One of the most interesting combat systems so far that I ever had in an mmo ^_^
Besides the skill deck instead of your common skill bar, there is also the pep that you can build up (max physical pep adds 50% movement speed and the other ones add dmg and attack speed) there are skills that increase or decrease pep on hit/miss very very interesting and this all at lvl 4 already <3 loving it

1st of all THIS LINK you posted is the whole problem, since IT IS A BROKEN DOWNLOADER THAT HAS AN ERROR HALFWAY, My link to the forum has 3 download options right there in the 1st post where it links to.
2nd this has game has real kind of combat not just bam aoe bwahaha, I take those mobs on 1 vs 6 without aoe which is way more fun, and on top of that it has realtime dodge, realtime aiming, no tab selecting and just stand and watch the mobs die XD

keep posting ur review snow.and state ur lvl.if i recall right lvling is fast there.but around a certain lvl(i forget which lvl) the lack of content will start and u can either just grind or pvp.
i want the feedback from u when u hit that lvl.if u think its still fun after that i will download the game and test also after boi cb is over ^^
i know i am sounding negative but acclaim company always disappoint me lolz.u can ask moe/sin about it since they play 2moon before heh

Acclaim has nothing to do with the whole freeking game. The only thing they do is host it atm.
They did not develop it. They can'd do shit with it. And Frogster is the one re-releasing it.
The game is there to be enjoyed since there is no better alternative out there to begin with.
It is free to play, no cash shop, and full of amazing features that even without any content would have been fun.
Now the start of the game, every quest so far is very well written, npcs actually react instad of being lame standing npcs, and the whole thing is just worth testing it, no matter who's hosting it.
Yes there will be no extra service or updates provided, I am not talking about playing this game long term, but it sure can last at least as long as gpot aika or longer and is worth just having touched it since it ll open up new mmo experience for the ones that have been stuck to the same type of combat for years.
As for the links, I never did change any link o_0 the one linking to the forum still the same link, dunno why it didn not work for you before, but it still links to the forum, and on the forum it links to 3 different downloads.

oh that forum have some bugs then.the first time i click on it,it bring me to index page instead of the thread itself.then i have to search for the so call download thread lolz.
if u are just playing it short term then i probably will pass hehe.might as well try boi till cb is over then take some rest before global aika or other mmo
i seen this mmo pvp video before.its alright but does not impress me.and i think i will get dizzy with that target arrow keep showing up in front lolz. but u guys who like fps should like it hehe

You should try it instead of avoiding it exactly for the reasons you mention. You say you think that ll happen, and I seen vids of this game before aswell. But it is that much more fun when actually playing it yourself, and you realise how well the combat system is made.
Btw do not give the aim thingey too much credit, you can still aim besides the mob and hit it, you just can't go completely missing it.
The aim is mostly for long range combat when at max range you have to aim more precisely to hit mobs with your bow
Also I am not sure how short or how long I plan to play this, it will be not too long if no one is gonna join me since an mmo is boring without a community, and tcos doesn't have a huge community in game atm, due to them reforming and not doing anything on the marketing site + having some troubles with the downloader etc. But these are all minor things if ya want to enjoy this game since it is really fun. I'm aslo gonna grab Reggy XD since he failed to kill the very 1st boar he met way back when he tested this, but he did enjoy the game too.
