TERA implementing chronoscrolls to combat gold farming

TERA isn't releasing in North America for several months yet, but the folks at En Masse are already taking steps to curb the inevitable tide of gold farmers sure to be washing up on Arborea's beaches in 2012.

A new dev blog released over the weekend outlines the introduction of chronoscrolls, and those of you who are familiar with EVE Online's
PLEX system will probably see several parallels between the two
mechanics. "If you've never purchased gold, and you're wondering why
this new chronoscrolls system is a good addition to the game, consider
this: Whether chronoscrolls exist or not, other players are buying gold
from real-money traders. By creating the opportunity for players who
already buy gold to purchase it legitimately, we help eliminate the incentive for real-money traders to target TERA," says producer Patrick Wyatt.

From what I'm reading I'm understanding they'r going to sell gold themselves?

yes snow.they are considering selling gold in form of scroll unit i think if i understand correctly.

maybe the start of company selling gold themselves.which might be good and bad.good part is if they allow players to sell gold to one another as well as selling gold themselves with a ratio quota it might actually create a group of pro gamers who play as a profession hehe.

on the other hand if they just selling gold without limit or quota then its really bad for players economy and the game is doom to fail

Kinda inspired by the Entropia Universe mmo

The game company still earns money by the p2p subscription fee, yet there is a real money trade

We actually might be not that far away from where you can literally play games for a living from your home and that it's gonna be common.
(not talking about tournaments and pro games, but literally just play whatever you like and convert it legally to real money)

Plenty of indicators for it already too:
Entropia Universe, sites like offgamers.com, cash shops like PWs cash shop that already allow you to sell your cash currency directly for gold etc.

yup.even in books that write about future gaming they mention such trend might be possible.the key is how the company will balance the system.might take a while before it actually take off.

they will need a really good mmo that will last a long time that can inspire a real market economy in the game which can lure in other company investments as the form of buying VR property and currency.

which probably will never happen till VR technology is here is my opinion hehe.i doubt it will happen soon.but i hope it will before the end of the world come heh

Alot of things should change to allow gaming to go in that direction
