| | | Bans Males Who Play As Females | Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:12 am by Ashura | According to Gamepolitics.com, a month ago, a Chinese MMO company, Aurora Technology, has began to ban male players who masquerade in video games under female avatars. While it may seem like an overreaction within one company, it is important to note that Aurora Technology is a subsidiary of MMO publishing giant Shanda, a company that publishes a large amount of MMOs in North America, like Aion, Dungeons & Dragons Online and Company of Heroes Online. The company has already begun to implement this "gender checking" process by forcing players to prove their gender via webcam. It's also quite interesting to note that the company is only applying this rule to male players who play under female avatars, and not the reverse.
Perhaps this is an attempt to slow down scammers who pose as females in order to manipulate male gamers to give them items, but no official reason has been given as to why the company is cracking down on these "gender bending" players.
